Hi ThePaganSun,

how are you? I hope you are doing well.

I'm planning to make a doujin focussing on the Iberian brothers during Al Andalus era. You are very knowledgeable in Spanish history, thus if you don' t mind can you teach me about Spain before Al Andalus occupation. You mentioned grandma Carthage in the passing.. is it related to Spain past?

Many thanks in advance ^^

Hi there, buddy!

You ARE?!?!?! YAAAAAAAY!!! :happybounce: I can't wait to read it! I'll send you a note with the necessary information since I don't want to "spam" or fill up your comments section with all the info I'm about to give you. And yes, Carthage is involved in Spain and Portugal's past. Take care! ;)

Thank you so much ThePaganSun :D I'll be waiting for your info. Sorry to trouble you in like this, I will credit you for this comic ;)

Additionally I would like to know Spain's view point during Umayyah Era (the first Al Andalus), I'm not going to go into Almoravid and Almohad (second & third Al Andalus) era due to limitation on the pages allotted. If possible, please share as well the source of book/website/writings for your info ^^

Many thanks in advance, I hope you have a good day.

You're welcome! :) UGH! I had almost sent you the entire info just now with the sources, but then I accidentally deleted it! NOOO! GAAAH! CURSE YOU! Oh well. I'll have to send it to you tomorrow or another day.

Oh, it's fine! I LOVE Spain (I'm Puerto Rican so half my ancestors were from there, the others being the Mesoamerican Taínos, Moors and West Africans). Love

Well, a good documentary to watch is "When the Moors Ruled in Europe" (2005) by British historian, Bettany Hughes. It explains that at the time, most of the southern cities in Spain regarded the the Moors as saviors since the archaeology shows that much of the physical damage was caused earlier by the Visigoths (I'll go into this later in my notes and why they were usually fighting each other). The documentary also briefly touches on  the Almoravids and the Almohads, but focuses mainly on the Umayyad era. It also claims that the majority of the Moriscos were native Iberians, thus claiming that many Spaniards had converted willingly to Islam.

So, I think that Spain, at the time, really liked the Umayyad era and was only forced to turn against al-Andalus with the rise of the Spanish Inquisition and the exiling of the Moriscos in 1609. Otherwise, there would've been no way that the Moors could've held such sway over Hispania for almost a millennia if most of the population was so against it.

Even today, there are many Spaniards, especially Andalusians who are becoming more aware and proud of their Moorish roots. There was 8-part mini-series (in Spanish) about the fall of Granada that is very sympathetic to the Moors called "Requiem por Granada" (1991). Source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFWUqf…;

And "In October 2006, the Andalusian Parliament asked the three parliamentary groups that form the majority to support an amendment that would ease the way for Morisco descendants to gain Spanish citizenship. The proposal was originally made by IULV-CA, the Andalusian branch of the United Left.[44] Spanish Civil Code Art. 22.1, in its current form, provides concessions to nationals of the Ibero-Americancountries, Andorra, the PhilippinesEquatorial Guinea, and Portugal as well as to the descendants of Sephardic Jews expelled by Spain. It allows them to seek citizenship after two years rather than the customary ten years required for residence in Spain.[45

You're welcome again! I hope this helps! Have a great day, too! :D
